Questions and answers
The questions clients ask most
Short answers, in plain English. Don't see yours? Call or send a message: I'm happy to help.
Do I need to file a Florida income tax return?
No. Florida has no personal income tax, so a Florida resident files a federal return only. The year you move here can still mean a part-year return for the state you left, and a rental or a job in another state can mean a return there.
How do I send you my documents?
Use the secure upload page: no account or password needed, and files go straight into our encrypted ShareFile system. Please don't send tax documents by regular email; it isn't a secure channel for Social Security numbers or financial records.
How do I check where my return stands?
Open the private status link in your latest email from us: it shows where your return stands, what we still need and anything due. Clients with a portal login can also sign in to see their returns, what we still need and their invoices. Or call 239-488-4555.
How do I pay my invoice?
Use the Pay button in your invoice email, or sign in to the client portal and pay from Invoices, by card or bank transfer. Every payment ties to an invoice; for any other amount, call and I'll send you a secure pay link.
What will my return cost?
Every return starts from a posted base fee (an individual return from $175), and anything more is a clearly listed add-on. Anything outside the menu is billed at $300 an hour and always quoted before I begin, so there are no surprises.
Are you open after April 15?
Yes, all year. IRS notices in July, estimated taxes in October, bookkeeping in November: I'm here twelve months a year, not closed until next February.
What is an Enrolled Agent?
An Enrolled Agent is a tax specialist licensed by the U.S. Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Like CPAs and tax attorneys, Enrolled Agents have unlimited representation rights: any taxpayer, any tax matter, any IRS office, including audits, collections and appeals. EAs keep the credential with continuing education every year.
Can I meet you in person?
Yes, by appointment. Meetings are in person at the Bonita Springs office or by phone, so please book ahead rather than dropping in. The office is inside the Bonita Bay Business Park at Terry St and US-41.
I got a letter from the IRS. What should I do?
Don't pay it or call the number on it first: send it to me. A surprising share of notices are wrong, duplicated, crossed in the mail with a payment you already made, or based on information the IRS hasn't finished processing. I'll tell you in plain English what it really is and what, if anything, to do about it.
Do I need to make estimated tax payments?
Usually, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more at filing time: typically the self-employed, landlords, retirees with pension or investment income and business owners. Payments are due in April, June, September and January. Florida has no state estimated tax for individuals.
