Pay your federal taxes

The IRS offers several electronic payment options, all free from the IRS. Choose the one that fits your situation.

Changes for 2025–2026

The IRS stopped creating new individual EFTPS accounts on October 17, 2025: if you haven't enrolled, use IRS Direct Pay or an IRS Online Account instead. Paper refund checks were discontinued September 30, 2025, so give the IRS your direct-deposit details to avoid a delay of six weeks or more.

Paying by card or a digital wallet? The IRS also accepts credit and debit cards and wallets such as PayPal, Venmo and Click to Pay at irs.gov/payments (opens in a new tab), but the processor charges a fee of roughly 1.85 to 1.98%. Prefer cash? Use VanillaDirect: generate a barcode at irs.gov and pay at CVS, Walmart or 7-Eleven.
